That is the thesis, and it matters for a specific reason. When friends visit and ask where to go, the classics list you handed out in 2021 will send them to buildings that no longer serve the food you remember. The Old Postcard Is Now Three Waters. The Restaurant Inside Is Kindler.
The property most locals still describe by its old name is the clearest example of how much has changed. Formerly the iconic Postcard Inn, the reimagined Three Waters Resort has officially reopened, and with it comes Kindler. Their philosophy is quality, sustainability, and local sourcing, with wild-caught seafood, grass-fed meats, and an elevated coastal plate.
If you have not been in yet, the dishes worth pinning are the tuna crudo, banana leaf-wrapped mahi-mahi, and a cocktail listed on the menu as "Yes, Please." Reservations are the norm rather than the exception, which is a change from the walk-up rhythm the Postcard patio used to run on.

Papa Joe's Waterfront: Same Footprint, New Building
The other big pin most residents already know but out-of-town guests do not: the original Papa Joe's stood for almost 75 years before its demolition in 2010, and the reimagined Papa Joe's Waterfront opened in 2024 in the same footprint.
What is actually there now is worth describing in the specific terms the operators use, because it is not one venue but a stack of them. From a Tiki Bar for the 21-plus crowd to a family-friendly lawn and a dining room with sweeping ocean and bay views, there are private oceanfront suites, and boaters can dock and stay. Lido 73: A Fourth Italian Food Company, But Not The Menu You Know

Tony and Isis Wright, owners of Italian Food Company, announced the launch of Lido 73, an indoor/outdoor waterfront restaurant and snack bar at 90451 Old Highway. The location has history worth knowing about. Modeled after Mediterranean beach clubs, the Wrights preserved the building's heritage as a former dive center by installing underwater scenes captured by photographer Stephen Frink, and the restaurant offers ocean access for those arriving by boat.
Do not walk in expecting the Southern Italian menu you order at the original Islamorada, Tavernier, and Key Largo locations. The menu differs, with more grilled seafood, meats and casual offerings, including shrimp oreganata, home-made Cacio e Pepe arancini, freshly baked focaccia sandwiches, Sicilian-inspired fish with linguine aglio-olio, specialty flatbreads, plus a wine and beer menu, frozen drinks, and Italian soft drinks.
Drift On The Beach, And Why The Islander Is Different At 75
Islander Resort just crossed a milestone birthday, and the calendar reflects it. Islander Resort's 75th Anniversary is being marked with Seabreeze Social, a special $7.50 menu of select drinks, starters and snacks from 4:00 to 5:00 PM.
The restaurant that residents should know about here is Drift. Drift on the Beach delivers a high-end experience rooted in simple, flame-cooked dishes, located beachfront at the Islander Resort, and the local picks are grouper, lamb chops, and gluten-free key lime pie, best timed with sunset.
Beyond dinner, the resort is running a slate of small-format resident-adjacent programming worth knowing about even if you never book a room:
- Puttek Night Golf, Fridays and Saturdays 8 to 10 PM at Seaside Sports, with neon lights and friendly play.
- Bonfire and s'mores every Saturday at 8 PM.
- Monday Coastline Cleanup, with volunteers earning a $20 food and beverage credit.
The cleanup credit is the interesting line item. It quietly turns an hour of beach walking into a subsidized lunch, which is the kind of pin worth passing on to any neighbor who complains that a resort membership does not pay back locally.

Off The Water: The Cultural Pins You Are Probably Underusing
The dining reshuffle is the loudest part of the map, but the quieter side is worth updating too. Three current pins for a slower resident weekend:
The Hale Gallery. Programming has moved toward collaborative art releases, most recently the Pasta + Taylor Hale Collaborative Painting Release Party.
Green Turtle Comedy Club at The Nest. The stand-up nights run out of 81219 Overseas Highway, the same address most residents know as the Green Turtle building.
Florida Keys Brewing Company. Beyond the taproom, the brewery hosts themed nights like The Bacon King Experience and continues to host the Baygrass Bluegrass Festival on its calendar. If you have not walked in since the last time you had a beer on their patio, the event bookings have expanded.
One Practical August Note
The month you are reading this in has one calendar item that affects most other calendar items. The regular lobster season begins Aug. 6, 2026 and ends March 31, 2027. Menus at Kindler, Drift, Papa Joe's, and Lido 73 will start rotating lobster onto the specials board within that first week, and reservation pressure at the waterfront tables will follow.
During the two-day sport season and the regular season, no snorkeling or diving is allowed within 300 feet of residential or commercial shoreline, and that includes canals and any public or private marinas. If your dock backs a canal that connects to the ocean, the traffic pattern at your seawall will shift for a few weeks. It is a good time to keep the boat lift down and the fenders out.
The Update Worth Making
The point of this map is small and specific. The Islamorada a resident recommends should be the Islamorada that actually opens the door when a guest walks up to it. The names have moved. The buildings have not. Update the pin, keep the sunset.
